Instrumental functional analysis

The instrumental functional analysis consists of the electronic recording of all realistic three dimensional movement possibilities. They are determined with the help of a special axiograph that is based on ultrasound technology. The data are then transferred to special adjustable articulators. This makes it possible to achieve a nearly identical pattern of movement of the plaster cast in the articulator without the interference of muscular components. Therefore, this movement pattern is purely based on joint movements.

The plaster casts are mounted in the centric position of both condylar heads (joint heads) and are therefore, related to the joints. This position is determined with a centric bite registration. Even though this centric position is a snapshot that is extremely dependant on the day of the patient that can vary day by day, it is, due to the anatomy, a very reliable position.
